Good afternoon everyone, today I would like to talk about something both important and detrimental to this cause: What exactly it is and how we define it.
This effort is about ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement). This is not about democrats, republicans, you, me, or any other political aspirations someone may have. If you are a democrat, independent, republican, or of any ideology (or lack thereof), you are welcome here. If you are gay, straight, or something in-between, you are welcome here. This effort is solely about exposing ACTA to the public and informing them on how they can prevent it from taking hold of our respective nation(s).
Over the past 24 hours I have seen more and more people come around and bash both political parties. This is unacceptable. We need to understand that there are people here from all walks of life, of different ideologies, and for the sake of our common cause we need to be tolerant of them. We don't have to like them, but throwing up a nasty post on the Facebook wall, trashing them on IRC, or throwing a fit on the forum is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. Such topics and comments will be pruned without notice. This also goes to blatant comments & posts that support any political side that is not directly related to ACTA.
In addition, I have seen several people throwing fits about whether or not this is a *chan effort, whether or not this is activism, or whatever you would like to call it. It doesn't matter what label it holds, because this is entirely about stopping ACTA in its tracks. If someone wants to call it a raid, then let them. If you want to call it activism, that is fine too. To each is own, and by standing true to that mantra we will keep the focus on the most important thing here: ACTA and how to best stop it. If you have a problem with the above, you can deal with it. Cry about it and you will be ignored. This is srsbizness.
Last but most important of all: Enjoy yourselves. We are tackling a major threat to our way of life here. Lightheartedness is both acceptable and encouraged. Just remember, everyone, that there is a time and a place for silliness and a time for being serious. Know when each is appropriate and make sure you fit both into your day.
